New York Knicks forward Julius Randle has been fined $15,000 for comments he made about the officiating crew following the team's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Randle was called for a questionable foul on Sixers forward Tobias Harris in the overtime period. The foul gave Harris a pair of free throws as the Sixers pulled out a one-point win. Randle lashed out at the referees after the game.
The Knicks All-Star has now been fined for “directing inappropriate language toward a game official and public criticism of the officiating.”
Refereeing has been a rather sore subject for the league and its players as of late.
Utah Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were both fined for admonishing the refs after a loss to the Sixers just prior to the All-Star break. Los Angeles Clippers swingman Paul George also incurred a fine for comments made following a loss to the Dallas Mavericks last week.
Randle has now been the subject of two referring incidents. The former Kentucky star had been called for a travel in the final seconds of a Knicks loss to the Brooklyn Nets last Monday despite Kyrie Irving making contact. The league later clarified in its Last Two Minute Report official Scott Foster had made the right call. But Randle was incensed immediately after the contest and had to be restrained.
Sunday offered another bitter ending in a frustrating loss for the Knicks. The fine adds insult to injury for Randle, so to speak.
The Knicks are just 2-4 since the start of the second half and finds themselves in a tie for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
