Bring out your math book. Then burn it. Because you won't be needing it for this one. And if you're a New York Knicks fan, you might want to look away.
After falling 3-1 against the gutsy Atlanta Hawks in their first round series in the NBA Playoffs, the odds aren't in favor of the Big Apple. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have faced a 3-1 deficit in the postseason 13 times in team history. They lost every single one of them. If our always-infallible math is correct, that's a whopping 0 percent.
The last time the Knicks trailed 3-1 hole in the postseason was in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2013, eventually losing to the Indiana Pacers in six games.
To make it more daunting for Julius Randle and company, only 13 of 260 teams have bounced back from a 3-1 deficit to win the series in NBA Playoffs history. Again, if our always-infallible math is correct, that's, um, pretty low.

Julius Randle is asked if he believes the Knicks can come back from being down 3-1:

Randle has been absolutely abysmal against the Hawks, which, quite ironically, happened after he was named as this season's Most Improved Player. The Knicks won't go anywhere with him playing at a low level. One thing going for him is that they're back at Madison Square Garden for their must-win Game 6.
As they have proven all season long, Julius Randle and the Knicks have surpassed mighty odds. And what better way for them to cement that by climbing back from a 3-1 hole against the Hawks?
