Free agency is set to open a little after the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Draft and teams across the league are preparing to make big acquisitions. Some of the best moves are for organizations to retain big-named players already on the roster. With that in mind, rumors are swirling around the possibility of Mitchell Robinson re-signing with the New York Knicks.

According to Marc Stein, Scott Perry and the front office are rumored to be interested in a number of stars in free agency. They have their eyes set on Jalen Brunson and rumblings claim the Knicks are potentially interested in Kyrie Irving. However, Stein claims, “that a new multiyear deal to keep Mitchell Robinson in New York is looming.”

Bringing back Mitchell would be a smart move for this franchise. He's been a solid center so far in his career and locks down the paint for the Knicks. Re-signing Mitchell might be key, as doing should intrigue guys like Brunson or Irving to move to New York. Especially considering the front office's top free-agent target this offseason is Jalen Brunson, per Marc Stein.

Don't rule out a possible Kyrie Irving signing though, as Stein claims the Knicks, “would naturally be interested in Irving if he is really in play.” Either way, New York can give themselves a solid roster with either Brunson or Irving as they'd join Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, and RJ Barrett.

Targeting big-name stars is not unusual for the Knicks, as they chase after superstars year in and year out. Perhaps the 2022 offseason will finally be their year though, as the team has some exciting young players on the roster to complement any star acquired.
