Kwame Brown was the first pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, but he was never the player who lived up to the hype. Now, his potential is something that can be discussed, but at the time, people saw something in Brown worthy of the first pick, and he was selected as one.

While he may have been a bust, he had solid seasons as a player. he simply didn't live up to the hype of being the number one overall pick. Brown opened up about his NBA career and all the issues he had in a big interview with Hoops Hype, and he mentioned the whole media narrative and connected it to the One-and-Done rule in the NBA.

“I think there’s a bigger reason why the media constantly put a negative spin on things involving me: I think the league wants to justify the one-and-done rule.” Kwame said in the interview. “They act like, somehow, it’s better for a kid to go to college for four months and be a one-and-done player rather than going straight to the NBA. I think they’ve made me the poster child for why players shouldn’t go straight to the NBA from high school.”

Brown does certainly raise important points during the interview and talks about important. He did average some solid numbers in Washington as well as with Lakers, but he has shouldered a lot of pressure that he simply wouldn't live up to. When a high-pick bust happens like Brown, not enough blame is put on the management who picked him in the draft, and a lot of it is put on the player itself, which is wrong.

Brown has not played in the NBA since 2013, when he was with the 76ers. Right now, he is involved with Ice Cube's Big3 league and was the fifth pick in their draft.
