As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to rebuild their coaching staff after the firing of former coach Luke Walton, they have lost another assistant coach for newly hired coach Frank Vogel, as Arkansas has hired away Clay Moser to be an assistant coach for the college program.

According to a tweet from Jeff Goodman, the former Lakers assistant, who has nearly three decades of experience in the world of professional basketball, will now act as the assistant coach for the Razorbacks. Moser has coached in nearly every facet of the NBA, including both the G-League and the NBA itself, and will now bring that experience to Arkansas.

Speaking in a statement (via Arkansas’ team site) regarding the hiring, Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman noted his experience working with Moser, and how incredible he is when it comes to basketball analytics. “Clay is an incredible ‘X and O’ coach and he has been at the forefront of basketball analytics. He loves player development and brings the NBA experience that our players look for and will soak up.”

Moser spent seven-and-a-half years with Lakers, where he was first hired on as an advanced NBA scout before moving up to assistant coach and director of basketball strategy. With the Lakers currently going through their own tumultuous rebuild, it seems as if Moser is ready to move on, and for the Lakers, this is just another position they must fill as their offseason continues. With free agency approaching, it’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers try to fill their staff out quickly, especially in an effort to entice high-profile players to the team.
