Alex Caruso signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, his first guaranteed deal in the NBA.

Caruso admits signing on the dotted line was a “surreal” feeling for him:

“The feeling of signing a guaranteed deal—NBA money—that was surreal,” Caruso told Leo Sepkowitz of Bleacher Report. “Especially from where I come from, the path to get there. It hit me in little waves, little shocks here and there, where I'd be talking to my mom or dad or sisters or my buddies back home, and like, having to type out, Yeah, I signed a two-year, 5.5 with the Lakers. To actually say that out loud is a pretty cool feeling.”

Alex Caruso averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25 games with the Lakers last season. He shot 44.5 percent from the field, 48.0 percent from beyond the arc and 79.7 percent from the free-throw line.

In an April game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Caruso put up 32 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the Lakers to a five-point win. That's not a stat line the Lakers can expect Caruso to put up again moving forward, but the energy and spirit he plays with is contagious, and it's why everyone in Los Angeles who cheers for the Purple and Gold loves the Texas native.
