By now, it's a fact that LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers are two of the more clutch players in the NBA today. They activated their clutch genes last season as they stormed through the NBA Bubble all the way to the Lakers' 17th championship banner.
But it's also a fact that no one is perfect, and even LeBron and AD would have their off-nights.
On Monday, the two superstars almost lost the game for the defending champions against the Memphis Grizzlies after a series of unfortunate events in the dying seconds.
LeBron came up huge in the last minute in the fourth quarter after he made a bucket to give the Lakers some breathing room and followed that up with a huge block on the other end. At this point, they were already up 88-83.
LeBron and AD were fouled on consecutive plays and they both knocked down their charity shots which kept the Grizzlies at bay, 92-83 with under 30 seconds to go. But this was when things got a bit rocky for the Purple and Gold.
After Kyle Anderson knocked down a three-pointer to put the Grizzlies to within six, LeBron and AD botched a pass. Tyus Jones was then fouled by Kyle Kuzma and split his free throws. But LeBron's pass was intercepted again, this time by Brandon Clarke who then knocked down a bucket to make it 92-89.
After Kuzma converted on the other end, Dillon Brooks made another three-pointer to make it 94-92 with only 1.7 seconds left in the game. Fortunately for the Lakers, time ran out and they escaped with a two-point win.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis might be needing some wine tonight.
