Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis is questionable to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday due to a sore right knee. Davis dealt with a sore elbow recently, but the knee issue is a new development. Alex Caruso is also questionable to play with a sore hamstring, coming off his first start of the season.

Sunday's matchup marks the second night of a back-to-back for the Lakers, coming off one of their worst performances of the season on Saturday in a lifeless 105-88 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Davis played just 15 minutes, posting 15 points and nine rebounds.

Davis is averaging 26.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game in his first season as a Laker, and is a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. He has missed seven games this season, but none since sitting out five in a row with a gluteus maximus bruise from Jan. 10-18. LeBron and the Lakers are 5-2 in his absence.

It's not surprising to see the Lakers take a cautious approach as March behgins. At 45-13, they have a fairly comfortable grasp on the top seed in the West, leading the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers (40-19) by 5.5 games. Beginning the playoffs with as fresh and healthy of a roster as possible has to be the priority down the stretch for Frank Vogel's team.

If Davis does miss Sunday's game, his next opportunity to return to action will be back in Los Angeles on Tuesday in a showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers.
