It has been over a year since superstar big man Anthony Davis made the move to the Los Angeles Lakers. Certainly, the trade has been beneficial for both parties, with Davis and the Lakers just one win away from making the NBA Finals. While speaking to reporters, Davis looked back on the deal that happened in June of 2019.
The Brow admitted that point guard and former New Orleans Pelicans teammate Rajon Rondo was the first person he called when the Lakers acquired Davis. AD revealed that he always admired the veteran guard for his leadership and mindset on the floor.
“He was the first person I called. I told him that I wanted him to come back because I knew how much I excel with him and how much of a leader he is and his mindset on the floor and his will to win. ”

As Davis also mentioned, he found a lot of success playing alongside Rondo back when they played one season together for the Pelicans in 2017-18. The pass-first guard complemented Davis so well and helped the Pelicans in their most successful run in the Anthony Davis era.
To recall, sixth seed New Orleans, led by Davis, made the playoffs that season and shocked the No. 3 seed Portland Trail Blazers by sweeping them in the first round. The four-time All-Star turned into “Playoff Rondo” throughout that playoff run, where he turned in vintage numbers of 10.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 12.2 assists per game.
Rondo is doing the same for the Lakers this year, providing the Purple and Gold with savvy playmaking and toughness on the other end of the floor. Los Angeles will certainly need the 34-year old to continue being “Playoff Rondo” if they want to capture banner No. 17.
