Anthony Davis returned from an 18-game absence at a crucial time. The Los Angeles Lakers are in the thick of a playoff hunt. Unfortunately for them, they hurt their chances of reaching the play-in tournament by losing to Davis' former team, the New Orleans Pelicans.

LeBron James is sidelined for the Lakers' next crucial game, a home matchup with Nikola Jokic the Denver Nuggets, due to an ankle injury. Fortunately for LA, Davis will be available to play. Head coach Frank Vogel said that Davis, who sprained his foot in February, is still sore but will still be ready to go against Denver.

Los Angeles is 11th in the Western Conference and sits one game behind the San Antonio Spurs, who have the tiebreaker over them. This season has been a nightmare for them, as the roster overhaul they pulled off in the offseason has materialized into an ineffective roster. Brutal losses have been a frequent occurrence this season despite being championship favorites in the preseason.

Davis has been disappointing this season due to his lack of availability. He is still producing at a high level, averaging 23.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 blocks per game in 38 contests. Los Angeles missed him dearly over the course of the season because of his chemistry with James and tremendous defensive abilities.

With Los Angeles falling out of playoff contention, Davis will look to do his part to keep the Lakers' hopes alive.
