There's a chance Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James could pass Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA's all-time scoring list, something Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony thinks is incredible.

For years, no one thought Abdul-Jabbar's record would be touched, but barring a serious injury or sudden retirement, the current Lakers star has a really good shot of catching and passing Kareem.

Anthony, one of James' best friends, spoke to Bill Oram of The Athletic about the subject:

At his current scoring average, James could pass Malone sometime in the 2021-22 season, and would need another 60 or so games to top Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s sacred mark of 38,387 points.

“Nobody thought that could be touched,” Anthony said, “but he’s right there, so …”

James could be 38 by the time he has a shot at it.

“That’s up to him,” Anthony said. “I don’t know how much longer he wants to play, but that’s up to him. If that’s in his mirror, I’m sure he will try to achieve that.”

LeBron is the only player in NBA history to be in the top 10 on both the all-time scoring and all-time assists lists. The Lakers star truly is a player we may never see the likes of again.

In his second season with the Lakers, LeBron James is averaging 25.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 10.9 assists. He’s shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 69.2 percent from the free-throw line. The future Hall of Famer is about to pass Kobe Bryant on the all-time scoring list.

The Lakers are 34-8 on the season, which is good for the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference. They have a 4.5-game lead over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Lakers will face the Boston Celtics on Monday night.
