Charles Barkley has always been an outspoken person when it comes to, well, everything. The former NBA legend turned TV personality has had his fair share of moments where he goes off on a tangent. However, his latest declaration regarding the Los Angeles Lakers might be his most hilarious masterpiece so far.
During their critically acclaimed show “Inside the NBA”, Charles Barkley declared that he wouldn't refer to the Lakers as the “Lakers” until they win a playoff game. According to him, this was his way of protesting TNT (where Inside the NBA is broadcasted from) and ESPN talking about the team all the time despite their clear struggles. (via Bleacher Report)

The Lakers' massive struggles this season are well-documented in media. Despite trading for Russell Westbrook in the off-season along with big splashes in free agency, LeBron James and co. have failed to live up to the expectations. Their subsequent collapse has been the biggest talking point amongst NBA circles and media outlets.
Barkley is essentially arguing that the Lakers are no different than the fringe contenders like the Blazers or the Pistons. Until they win a playoff game, he says, most people shouldn't be talking about them. That's why he refuses to
However, the reality is that the Lakers were built up to be a contender. LeBron's presence alone makes them a playoff candidate. Their moves, despite being questionable, were all seen as win-now moves. A supposed contender making big moves and then flopping will always generate attention, no matter how much you don't want it to.
