The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t been on the winning end of their games in Oklahoma City whenever they face the Thunder. Mike Trudell of Spectrum Sportsnet pointed out during the game that the Lakers have lost 11 straight games at the Thunder’s home court dating back to when head coach Luke Walton was still a player for the team.
On Sunday, the Lakers found the magic touch and defeated the Thunder on their home floor 108-104.
The Tinseltown team's attack was led by Brook Lopez who scored 20 points and shot 4-of-9 from the 3-point line. Additional firepower came from Julius Randle with 19, Jordan Clarkson with 18, and Brandon Ingram pitching in 16 for the game.
Surprisingly, their leading scorer Kyle Kuzma only chipped in two points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field but the Lakers won with six players scoring in double figures.
On the other hand, the Thunder have lost four straight games after going on an eight-game winning streak.
“I was most proud of the way that we engaged ourselves in the fight this time,” Walton said after the game via an Associated Press report on ESPN. “Again, we went off to a good start where we were competing back and forth and this time, we sustained it for much longer.”
Magic Johnson, the retired Laker great and president of basketball operations of the team, was most pleased with the win, congratulating Walton in particular for getting his young squad prepared for battle.
The last time the Lakers won in Oklahoma City was on February 27, 2011. Kobe Bryant hadn’t retired yet and the team was in the hunt for a third straight NBA championship after winning the Larry O’Brien trophy in 2009 and 2010.
