Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has had plenty of success in his first year in charge of the purple and gold. Vogel has helped lead the Lakers to a 24-5 record, the best mark in the Western Conference.
He is also drawing inspiration — like many before him — from boxing movies. Only this time, the message was more intrinsic in nature.

In a film session after the Lakers squeaked by with a win over the Atlanta Hawks, there was plenty for them to improve. But Frank Vogel doesn’t like to harp too much on negatives, and if he has a point to make he often employs movie clips. This time, he turned to Rocky Balboa and Adonis Creed.
In a scene from the movie “Creed II,” Balboa stood with Creed in front of a mirror and pointed at the young boxer, saying that was his toughest opponent.
“Every time you get into the ring, that’s who you’re going against,” Balboa said.
Vogel wanted to remind the Lakers about the importance of self-reflection.
The Lakers have not beaten themselves very often this season, although they certainly had a hand in their own demise against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night.
Los Angeles committed 18 turnovers — including five apiece from LeBron James and Rajon Rondo — and made a series of key errors down the stretch.
But mistakes are bound to happen when two elite teams square off. Vogel's message seems to be more simplistic in nature: the Lakers are capable of beating anyone and everyone when they are going good.
