When the Los Angeles Lakers signed center JaVale McGee in the offseason, pundits were quick to poke fun at the move. In his first two regular-season games with the Lakers, however, McGee is showing exactly why the team signed him to a one-year deal worth only $2.4 million.

In the Lakers' home loss to the Houston Rockets Saturday night at Staples Center, McGee did something that hasn't been done by a Laker since the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. McGee became the first player in Purple and Gold to score 15 or more points and block five or more shots in 20 or fewer minutes of game action.

The high-flyer is also the first player in franchise history since Shaquille O'Neal to block at least eight shots in the team's first two games. McGee had five blocks versus the Rockets, and three in the season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, via ClutchPoints' Ryan Ward:

Playing alongside three stellar passers in LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, and Lonzo Ball, JaVale McGee is going to get so many easy baskets at the rim this season. The 30-year-old is shooting a blistering 70.6 percent from the field in the first two games of the year. McGee also gives the Lakers rim protection, something the team desperately needs since their defense might not be that good this season.

There was a time when after hearing the name JaVale McGee, people would instantly think to Shaq's famous show “Shaqtin' a Fool.” However, after winning two championships with the Golden State Warriors, McGee was able to improve his reputation and, so far, he looks like a great fit with the Lakers.
