Cleveland Cavaliers center JaVale McGee might be going back to Staples Center, as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers again, per Tom Haberstroh of TrueHoop

There is reportedly some interest from the Lakers to bring him back. For this to happen, McGee should be traded to another team from Cleveland and be bought out so that he can be signed by the Lakers. Los Angeles appreciates how McGee is humble, willing to put in the work, and put the team above himself.

Anthony Davis' injury most likely played a big part in this. While there is no replacing the Brow, McGee at least provides a big body in the middle and length to protect the rim and be a reliable lob target.

Big men offseason acquisitions Marc Gasol and Montrzl Harrell are more dynamic and skilled than McGee, but he adds a different dynamic to an already stingy defense. Gasol is older and less mobile than McGee and Harrell gets bullied inside the paint.

The Lakers value defense and McGee can still provide much of it and at the same time, he already has familiarity with head coach Frank Vogel's schemes and philosophy. Of course, McGee has existing chemistry with several Lakers.

McGee did not play much in Los Angeles' postseason run, but he was integral to the team for most of the regular season, where he played 16.6 minutes a game and averaged 6.6 points, 5.7 boards, and 1.4 blocks. He is one of those players whose impact goes beyond the box score.
