Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar released a powerful statement on Twitter in response to the Jacob Blake shooting and the three-day boycott the NBA players took part in.

Abdul-Jabbar, a civil rights icon, says “our political leaders have to figure out a way to legally make it structurally important that we are able to hold bad cops accountable.”

Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by Wisconsin police. He's paralyzed from the waist down and this tragedy deeply affected the NBA and its players since Blake is another unarmed Black man who was wrongfully shot.

The Milwaukee Bucks were hit hard by the incident since they are from Wisconsin. The players boycotted Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday without informing the rest of the teams, which rubbed some players the wrong way. It was actually raised during a contentious emergency player meeting on Wednesday. Guys such as LeBron James didn't like how Milwaukee made such a drastic decision without consulting with other teams.

The Bucks were soon followed by the Oklahoma City Thunder-Houston Rockets and Lakers-Portland Trail Blazers in their boycott. Thursday and Friday's games were postponed as well, but games will be resumed on Saturday.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's former team, the Lakers, are up 3-1 on the Blazers and can advance to the second round of the playoffs with a win on Saturday.

Based on all the reporting that's out there, it appears NBA players were very serious about leaving the Disney bubble and boycotting the rest of the playoffs. Kudos to the players and owners for getting on the same page and agreeing to this solution.
