The Los Angeles Lakers had a nightmare season this past year. But could they wake up from their bad dream sooner rather than later? Kendrick Perkins certainly thinks so, issuing a bold prediction for LeBron James' co-star Anthony Davis for next season.

The controversial player turned analyst sees a Maurice Podoloff award in AD's future, which would obviously be a boon for the Lakers as a whole.

“I’m predicting right now that he is going to be the one to win MVP next season. He sees all the slander. He’s hearing everything about Giannis. He’s very quiet at the moment. And from what I'm hearing, he’s working his tail off behind the scenes. Lakers got to do something but I would not panic if I’m a Lakers fan.”

An MVP nod would mean a highly successful season for the Purple & Gold, with home-court advantage and a reasonable path to make a deep postseason run. The last thing AD and LeBron need is another play-in tournament clash and a first-round face-off against a top-seeded Western Conference rival.

Nobody is doubting that AD has the potential to be the best player in the league. The Lakers big man has been a constant name on MVP voting charts throughout his career, with multiple top 10 appearances as well as a 3rd-place finish during the 2017-18 season. But as the broken record continues to play on repeat, he just needs to stay healthy. If he can do that next season, Kendrick Perkins' hot take won't be burning anybody.
