Before Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball’s shooting form became much talked about, there were already some former NBA players who also had unorthodox styles. From Bill Cartwright, Shawn Marion and even Reggie Miller, just to name a few, they all spent their careers in the league without changing the way they shoot.

One of the more recent players with a similar form is Kevin Martin, who recently gave his reaction to how the Los Angeles Lakers rookie shoots the ball. He shared, via Marc Stein of the New York Times, that he thought that nobody would shoot close to how he does. However, that changed when he saw Ball attempt some shots, which was an unbelievable sight for him.

“People were telling me, this kid shoots just like you,” Martin said.

“And I was like, ‘There’s no way somebody else shoots like me.’ I never thought my form would come to the surface again in basketball history. Then I saw him and said, ‘We have the exact same starting point and end point.’ It’s crazy.”

Despite his unorthodox form, Martin went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA, and made a name for himself as a good shooter, especially from beyond the arc. He suited up for five different franchises, including the San Antonio Spurs, who he last played for back in the 2015-16 season. The former 26th overall pick in the 2004 draft announced his retirement from the NBA in November of last year, even at only 33 years old that time.

Martin’s journey as an NBA player could serve as inspiration for Ball to become successful as well. While many are doubting him already at this stage of his career, he can look up to the former Western Carolina star, to be able to live up to expectations and prove to himself that he can become an all-time great of the league.
