Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant says this year's Purple and Gold squad needs to invest in “health” to ultimately win the 2020 championship.
The Lakers currently have the best record in the Western Conference. Anthony Davis is dealing with a bruised gluteus maximus, but he isn't expected to miss too much time.
However, Bryant says the Lakers have to make sure they're keeping up with their strength training moving forward:
“They are the biggest team I’ve probably ever seen,” Kobe Bryant told Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on the All The Smoke Podcast, via Lakers Nation. “Their length, it’s old school big. They’re tough and have athleticism so they look fantastic.
“I think the biggest thing for them and what they really need to invest in is health. Making sure the strength training is where it should be and making sure physically you’re always where you should be. They got Judy [Seto] over there and Judy is amazing… she’s the best. And so I think that’s the biggest thing for them is just health. If they’re healthy, it’s going to be a hell of a freeway series here.”
In his first season with the Lakers, Davis has been a monster on both ends of the court. He’s averaging 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.
LeBron James, meanwhile, is playing like an MVP now that he’s healthy again. The King is putting up 25.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists and shooting 48.6 percent overall, 34.7 percent from the 3-point line and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe.
