According to Lucy Robinson of BabyCenter, “Kobe” and “Gianna” are among the most popular baby names of 2020 after Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were tragically killed in a helicopter crash in January.

The late great Lakers icon and his daughter are being honored by families around the world in what is a very touching tribute.

Via Robinson:

Baby names are always a mirror of the times. Changes in the 2020 list reflect a year of loss and political divisiveness. Kobe shot up 175% after Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, lost his life in a tragic helicopter accident alongside his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna (up 216%).

The Lakers, led by superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, won the 2020 title at Walt Disney World for Kobe and Gianna Bryant. The team defeated the Miami Heat in six games. It was Los Angeles' first ring since 2010 when Kobe led the Purple and Gold to the championship in seven games over the rival Boston Celtics for his final title.

As most people know, Kobe is the greatest player in Lakers franchise history. He has both of his numbers (8, 24) retired by the organization. Kobe won five championships with the Lakers and two Finals MVP awards. He finished his Lakers career with stellar averages of 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

Even though so much time has passed since Kobe and Gianna's tragic death, it still doesn't seem real that they are no longer with us. It would have been special to watch them celebrate the Lakers' 2020 title.
