The Los Angeles Lakers will have a chance to shoot their best shot this offseason for their main target in New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis.
While the purple-and-gold have two recent No. 2 overall picks on their roster, their best young trade asset isn't Brandon Ingram or Lonzo Ball, but rather their 27th overall selection in 2017, Kyle Kuzma.
A former NBA executive made it clear that the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers have better packages to offer for Davis with Jayson Tatum and Ben Simmons on the line for a blockbuster move, but if the Lakers are given the room to put out their best proposal, it will be center around the young Kuzma, rather than their two former second overall selections.
“He's a legitimate scorer that fits the modern NBA perfectly,” a former general manager told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report. “Kuzma has the highest value of the [Lakers' young prospects]. He's the most proven.”
Kuzma is only halfway into his second season in the league, but his short resume already has him as a legitimate scorer with the chance to polish himself more as he ages into his career.
A 6-foot-9 rangy and athletic forward that has shown the versatility and work ethic to improve from his first to his second season in the league, Kuzma doesn't compare in value to stars like Tatum or Simmons, but he is the best player the Lakers can offer for Davis. He puts them third on the list if the Pelicans pursue a trade prior to the 2019 NBA Draft.
