Lamar Odom reflected on how much Lakers legend Kobe Bryant meant to him during his appearance on Showtime's All The Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.

Odom got emotional speaking about Bryant's mindset and constant drive to be great. He mused Kobe was a killer day in and day out, even from the time he woke up and set down for breakfast in the morning.

The former Los Angeles Lakers big man also elaborated on Bryant's impact off the floor, revealing Kobe offered to help him when he ran into some debt as a result of gambling issues.

Odom said Bryant was blunt and upfront about the gambling transgressions, but never hesitated to lend his support:

“After he went in, he was just like, ‘Have your people call my people, and we'll figure it out,' ” Odom said, via People magazine. “That was one before the last time that I spoke to him.”

The “Black Mamba” always showed a tremendous amount of concern for Odom's well-being when the latter was battling substance abuse issues. Bryant visited Odom in the hospital after Odom was found unresponsive by staff at a Nevada brothel in October of 2015.

Odom spoke at length about Bryant's influence on his own life after Kobe, his daughter, Gianna and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash outside Calabasas in January of 2020. He again reiterated his love for his former Lakers teammate on the one-year anniversary of Bryant's death.

It goes without saying Bryant impacted people on a global level. But his relationship with Odom and the lessons he taught L.O. still resonate long after his death.
