Since he made numerous eyebrow-raising statements last season, LaVar Ball had been suspiciously quiet during the 2018-19 campaign. On Monday night, the eldest Ball broke this streak and supplied yet another questionable line for the media to eat up.

When a reporter from TMZ Sports questioned LaVar Ball on who was better as a teenager, his youngest son LaMelo or LeBron James, LaVar had an emphatic response:

“He better than LeBron. Stop it.”

Now, LaVar Ball is clearly a little biased considering he is LaMelo's father. Additionally, he has a history of outrageously hyping his three sons to anyone who will listen.

And while it is true that LaMelo is playing some excellent basketball right now with the SPIRE Institute, this seems disrespectful to one of the all-time greats.

LeBron will go down in history as one of the best to ever play the game. It is too early to even compare LaMelo, who has not even played one minute in the NBA, to him.

LaVar Ball has been disciplined before by the Lakers' brass for running his mouth too much, and it seems like another reprimand might be coming.

Now that LeBron and Lonzo Ball are teammates, it's probably better for the Lakers if LaVar Ball does not speak on any LeBron James-related topics for the rest of the season. James may not be thrilled to hear that his teammate's father thinks that his kid could be better than him, even though ultimately he probably doesn't care at all.

Regardless, LaMelo has a bright future. Hopefully, his father's mouth will not get in the way of it.
