Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was caught on camera having a funny exchange with referee Marc Davis after he was called for a foul.

James was quick to yip to Davis, quickly leading to this fun-loving chatter before the Oklahoma City Thunder put the ball in play.

James: “I know you can read and seeing I haven't been playing defense the last couple of years, but it's a new year. It's a new year.”

Davis: “I have not said that. That has never come out of my mouth — [motions to inbound the ball] — that's never come out of my mouth.”

James is really taking this narrative of people saying he's “washed” and that he no longer plays defense to heart. Some have even gone as far as to say that now that the Lakers have traded for Anthony Davis, he has a reason to try on defense.

Speculation of his intent to save gas for the fourth quarter has been the talk for the past two seasons, but now The King has made it a point to build the Lakers' identity around defense, and he's hoping officials like Davis quickly catch onto that and be a bit more lenient when it comes to physicality and touch fouls.
