LeBron James heaps praise on new Lakers teammate — and it’s not Russell Westbrook

Let’s not beat around the bush. The Los Angeles Lakers have been horrendous in the offseason. Not even LeBron James and Russell Westbrook making their respective debuts on Friday were able to help the hapless Lakers as they fell to 0-3 in the preseason.

Despite the awful start to the campaign, LeBron has been able to see a silver lining in all of this. The four-time NBA champ singled out one particular recruit who has caught his eye thus far. That player happens to be Kendrick Nunn:

“Well, he comes from a defensive-minded franchise, and that’s Miami. You have to show up and play defense in order to be on the floor in Miami,” James said, via Daniel Starkand of Lakers Nation. “So I just love his competitive nature and the fact that he’s from Chicago, those guys just have another level of pride when it comes to basketball, both sides of the floor. So I love what he brings to our ball club and looking forward to him having a great year.”

LeBron sent a shoutout to his former squad in the Miami Heat as he praised Nunn, who himself played under head coach Erik Spoelstra for two years before making the move to Hollywood. Nunn was a bright spot for the Lakers in Friday’s loss to the Golden State Warriors, finishing with 13 points, four rebounds, and an assist in 27 minutes off the bench.

The same cannot be said about Russell Westbrook, though, who amassed no less than six turnovers in just 17 minutes of action. LeBron isn’t too concerned about it, however, and despite the setbacks, the Lakers are still keeping their eyes on the ultimate prize.
