Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James made sure to honor Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day on Friday. In the aftermath of the Purple and Gold's 112-95 beatdown of the New Orleans Pelicans at Staples Center, The King said he dedicates the win to the late civil rights movement icon.

“What he do for us every single day, his name, his words, his legacy still lives on. He's shining his light on us every day. As NBA players we continue to voice what he was talking about. About equality. All races, all shapes, all size, all colors coming together for the better of happiness and love.”

Had MLK been alive to this day, he would have definitely been proud of LeBron and the rest of the NBA for continuing what he started. Despite getting some pushback from conservative parties last year, the NBA threw their full support at the Black Lives Matter movement during the NBA Bubble last season.

LeBron has been one of the most high-profile athletes to use his influence to fight social injustice around the world. Apart from being one of the best players in history, the four-time MVP has truly been a great ambassador not just for the NBA, but for sports in general.

LeBron James acknowledged the need to douse the growing hate culture in the United States and said he wants to follow MLK's legacy of making sure the next generation has a better life.

“It's all about passing it down. Passing it forward to the next generation as he (MLK) did, as he spoke. As someone who has a platform like myself, I will continue to live by a lot of his messages.”

Preach.
