There seems to be a bug going around the league right now, and both LeBron James and Anthony Davis have fallen victim to it.

Both players missed shootaround as a result of illness and are game-time decisions for the clash between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night:

This is an incredibly odd coincidence, as James was recently campaigning for a Davis trade.

Of course, it surely is just a coincidence. It just comes at a very weird time.

It's not like these guys are making up their illnesses. After all, Lakers big man JaVale McGee has been sick for quite some time now, so it's entirely possible that James caught the bug from him.

Should both LeBron James and Anthony Davis miss this game, it would put a serious damper on the excitement surrounding it. I mean, who wants to watch Kyle Kuzma dueling with Jrue Holiday?

No disrespect to either player, but it's not exactly must-see TV.

This would also be particularly horrendous for the Pelicans, as they are already missing Nikola Mirotic.

Both clubs are struggling coming into this game.

New Orleans has gone just 5-10 over its last 15 contests, most recently falling to the Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 123-115 on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has dropped two straight and four of its last seven. The Lakers lost to the Brooklyn Nets in their last game on Tuesday.

However, the Lakers at least find themselves in the Western Conference playoff picture at 18-13. The Pelicans are just 15-17 and have a lot of work to do.
