On Tuesday night at the Staples Center, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers had an opportunity to bounce back from their loss to the Denver Nuggets in the team's preseason opener. Unfortunately, Los Angeles fell short on their home floor with the team unable to get off a shot at the buzzer in the fourth quarter resulting in the team's second straight loss, 113-111.
Despite the loss, the Lakers were in control for the majority of the contest. Los Angeles led by as much as 18 points, but let the Nuggets game back in the game in the second half with James parked on the bench after having logged 15 minutes for the second straight game. The three-time NBA champion talked about the game and the unselfishness he's seen from his new squad.
“We're a little too unselfish, but that's good for us,” James said. “Right now as we continue to learn one another. We want to make the extra pass. Go from a good shot to a great shot.
“Some of them we felt we gave up the ball a little bit too much, but it's going to be good for our team in the long run, so as we continue to figure each other out and what we want to do to get better, moving the ball and sharing the ball is very key.”
As any team in the NBA does after a drastic change to their roster, it takes time for things to come together and the new-look Lakers are no exception. James undoubtedly gives Los Angeles a huge boost in many different, but the team around him needs a lot of polish moving forward, and that has been clear in the first two games of the preseason.
However, James has played only a half during these exhibition games while head coach Luke Walton experiments with different lineups and sees what he's got to work with for the upcoming 2018-19 NBA season.
On Thursday, the Lakers will face their cross-court rivals at the Staples Center in the L.A. Clippers. Following that matchup, LeBron and company will have three preseason games left before the regular season gets underway on Oct. 18.
