In a talent-filled 2017 rookie class, no one faces more scrutiny and hefty expectations than Lonzo Ball.

The Los Angeles Lakers No. 2 overall selection dished on his father, LaVar Ball, and his antics, as well as what it'll be like to have a target on his back coming into the season.

LaVar has had plenty to say about his son since he was at UCLA going into the NCAA tournament, continuing a barrage of claims through the NBA offseason that have only helped to put a larger target on his back.

“I think it's overblown,” Ball told USA TODAY Sports. “That's how my dad is, I'm used to him acting like that, so it's nothing new for me. The way we look at it as a family is positive, we all know that he's gonna do what he's gonna do, so we look at it as a positive and just run with it.”

But that hasn't deterred the young up-and-coming star for his outlook coming into this season.

“The game of basketball is meant to be a competition, so I want everyone to give me their best game,” he said. “I just try to be humble and work hard, that's all I'm here to do.”

LaVar has indeed spoken it into existence and gotten his son to play for his hometown Lakers, something he hasn't taken for granted.

“It's definitely a dream come true,” said Ball. “To stay home, play for the Lakers, what he's been calling for since I've been a kid, for it to finally happen, it's crazy.”
