Last week, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that point guard Lonzo Ball would be undergoing surgery on his left knee. Ball underwent the surgery on Tuesday and the team says it was successful while also giving a timeline for second-year guard's return to the floor.

According to a press release sent out by the team, Ball will be ready to go when training camp gets underway for the Lakers in September.

Throughout his rookie season in Los Angeles, Ball dealt with his fair share of injuries. The UCLA product played in only 52 games in his first year in purple and gold starting in 50 of those contests. The former second overall pick showed flashes of brilliance on the basketball court, but still needs a lot of polish and to work on his body much like his teammate Brandon Ingram.

Although the Lakers are confident Ball can become a star in the NBA while playing alongside the likes of LeBron James, Kyle Kuzma, and Ingram, the 20-year-old was urged by the team's brass to bulk up over the summer. Magic Johnson and company want him in the best shape of his life in order to prepare for a physical and grueling 82-game grind.

Along with working his way back to 100 percent healthy, Ball will be battling it out with veteran newcomer Rajon Rondo for the starting spot in the backcourt. Only one starting spot is guaranteed at this point with LeBron owning one of the five available. Ball will have to prove his worth while also trying to stay healthy over the course of an NBA season.
