Magic Johnson had the media at full attention on Tuesday night. In a surprising move, the NBA legend announced that he is stepping away from his title of president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Lakers. This revelation caught everyone by surprise, including head coach Luke Walton, who many believed to be on his way out the door as well.

However, that might not be the case. According to a report from ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Walton is taking part in the Lakers' exit interviews, which seems to indicate that the team could be willing to keep him:

Walton knew he would be facing a great deal scrutiny if he didn't succeed this season. However, he also knew that the roster was full of talented players, including LeBron James.

This season didn't go as planned for the Lakers, though. James went down with a groin injury, which forced him to miss 17 games. And at the trade deadline, Los Angeles was willing to trade basically all of its young assets to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis.

The proposed deal for Davis fell through, which meant the players who were rumored to be involved had to play out the rest of the season knowing that they were trade chips.

In light of the poor showing this season, many experts felt that Walton's time with the team would be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Whether or not the Lakers will indeed keep Walton around remains to be seen, but it sounds like there is a chance.
