Following the Los Angeles Lakers' addition of All-Star forward LeBron James shortly after the start of free agency, there have been many questions about the various signings the team has made with regards to whether James was notified about them.
In light of that, team president of basketball operations Magic Johnson made it clear that the front office spoke with James prior to going forth with acquiring these players through free agency, according to Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet.
This erases any doubt that James wasn't in on the moves that were made following his agreement to join the Lakers, with the team getting the likes of Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee, as well as retaining Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The 33-year-old apparently gave the green light to the front office to bring aboard these players on one-year deals for next season.
The front office added talent around James that they believe will help the franchise compete in the daunting Western Conference, with eyes toward dethroning the Golden State Warriors. The lack of pure shooters is a glaring hole on the roster, but it shows that the team is taking a different approach next season with a more veteran-laden roster mixed with some young, promising talent.
The table is set for an intriguing campaign where the Lakers should be one of the focal points around the league with James now leading the charge. This has brought a new level of excitement that has been lacking in Los Angeles over the last several years, as the roster has some unique personalities around the four-time league MVP.
