Rajon Rondo has high expectations for his first season with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Rondo's confidence is through the roof now that he has the opportunity to play with the best player in the world.

Rondo told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN:

“You put any team, any group of players around LeBron James, as he has done [eight] straight times, he went to the Finals. So my expectations are the exact same thing,” Rondo said. “Even with the Warriors adding [DeMarcus Cousins] and the Rockets being who they are, I think we fit right up there in the mix.”

While many around the NBA are focused on the Warriors looking like the overwhelming favorite to repeat as NBA champions, Rondo has different ideas. The four-time All-Star brings a championship pedigree to the young Lakers squad and he should be a veteran that LA can lean on.

Rondo is one of the smartest players in the NBA and he can be yet another mentor for this young Lakers roster. Both he and LeBron James know what it takes to win a championship.

Unfortunately, getting to the NBA Finals for the ninth straight season could prove to be difficult in the loaded Western Conference. But never say never when LeBron James is on your team.

But the offseason isn't over yet. The Lakers may be ready to make a few last minute moves to creep closer to the Warriors. Maybe, that would include a deal for Kawhi Leonard. If so, Rondo's expectations may be a little more realistic.
