New Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams may have chosen the Suns over the Lakers when it comes to where he’d like to coach, but it seems as if Williams still very much has a ton of respect for the Lakers organization.

Speaking to Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast, Williams spoke highly about the Lakers, and specifically mentioned Jeanie Buss when he did so. According to Williams, the main thing that impressed him during his interview with the Suns was how thoughtful she was about the team and its DNA.

According to him, Buss truly seems invested in the things going on with the Lakers, and Williams spoke about how their discussion about the team seemed very heartfelt. While Williams obviously ended up choosing a different team to coach for, it does seem like his brief experience with Buss was a goodie, which goes against what some have said about her in the past.

For Williams, the goal now becomes helping lead a Suns team back into relevancy in the NBA. With an intriguing young core built around Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, the Suns also will have the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and will likely be looking to bring in some players via free agency or trade during the offseason.

With a lot of holes to fill on the roster, Williams likely won’t be returning to the postseason next season, but will obviously be looking to improve year after year with the team. If the Suns can get back into contention in the Western Conference, it’ll be a huge boost for the team and Williams, and something the fans will forever love him for.
