Free agent guard Vander Blue has agreed to a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. The former Marquette star was released out of camp, but managed to hang around long enough to garner the necessary attention to claim the last two-way spot next to Summer League sensation Alex Caruso.

Blue will spend most of his season in the now-rebranded G-League, with the South Bay Lakers (previously known as the Los Angeles D-Fenders), as he averaged 24.8 points, 3.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game for them last season.

The 25-year-old Wisconsin native played an instrumental part in the Lakers’ Summer League team, winning the Summer League championship on the day of his birthday.

Vander Blue can play with the Lakers for a maximum of 45 days, earning big-league royalties while doing so, under this new CBA provision. His appearance with the purple-and-gold will largely depend if there is any long-term injuries or suspensions to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Jordan Clarkson, leaving an open back-up shooting guard spot for him to fill in.

A three-year player at Marquette, Blue averaged 14.8 points and 3.2 rebounds during his junior season for the Golden Eagles, back in 2012-13.
