LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency was big news. It was news so big, in fact, that it did not only receive reaction from those in the basketball world. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, star player from the LA Galaxy, welcomed James to the city and also offered his assistance, per ESPN.

“I did a lot of sport. Everything with ball, I'm phenomenal,” Ibrahimovic said. “So if I played basket, I could play with LeBron, without a problem. And if they need help, I'll help them.”

Ibrahimovic is definitely a very good soccer player. And the fact that he was a multi-sport athlete definitely makes a difference. But the idea that he can actually play at the level of elite NBA basketball is interesting. Probably not very plausible, but interesting nonetheless.

Ibrahimovic clearly has healthy respect for James. He even compared their athletic abilities, saying James is similar to him, per ESPN.

“I think him, as an athlete, he's amazing, what's he doing, the way he's doing it,” Ibrahimovic said. “Because I see myself also being so big and move like a small ninja — what he does also.”

Lakers and NBA fans alike would be very interested to see Ibrahimovic and James play basketball, soccer, football, or any other sports together. It begs the question: Would James be a good soccer player, and what position would he play?

With his size, it would make sense for him to be a defender on the back line, or maybe even a keeper. He could also be a striker, provided he can be as accurate with his feet as he is with his hands now.

Maybe one day we will get to see that somehow.
