Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving is reportedly genuinely interested in reuniting with LeBron James in Los Angeles on the Lakers, according to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report.
Kyrie Irving can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics, something Irving is going to do since more money is available to him on the open market.
Irving told Celtics fans at the TD Garden before the 2018-19 season started that he was going to re-sign with the Celtics, but it looks like Irving may be having a change of heart.
A source close to the Celtics confirmed that Kyrie Irving is genuinely interested in reuniting with his former Cavaliers teammate. “That is for real,” the source said.
Kyrie Irving and LeBron James were teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons. The two superstars were an unstoppable duo and they won the 2016 championship over the Golden State Warriors.
Irving then shocked the world when he requested a trade from the Cavs in the summer of 2017. Uncle Drew reportedly didn't want to play with LeBron anymore and live in The King's shadow.
The Cavs traded Irving to the Celtics and Kyrie and LeBron's relationship was reportedly fractured as a result. But a lot can change in a year and, by the looks of it, it appears Kyrie Irving misses LeBron James.
Irving told reporters in Boston he called LeBron and apologized to James for how he acted as a young player in Cleveland. Kyrie is the leader of the Celtics and he's learning first hand what LeBron had to deal with all those years in Cleveland.
If Kyrie Irving and LeBron James do in fact reunite with the Lakers, it will be one of the most intriguing story lines in NBA history.
