With their season over and the head-coaching job vacant, the Los Angeles Lakers have, among their chief priorities in the offseason, to look for Frank Vogel's replacement. If it will come down to the preference of superstar LeBron James, the Lakers should be exploring right away the possibility of getting Mark Jackson to Tinseltown.

Via Sam Amick of The Athletic:

And here’s a tidbit to monitor as the Lakers conduct their latest coaching search: Sources say James would be very enthused by the prospect of Mark Jackson landing the job. But as history tells us, that doesn’t mean it will actually happen.

The Lakers are in need of a new direction following a disastrous campaign that saw the franchise miss the playoffs entirely despite a loaded roster that featured James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook. Los Angeles' failure to succeed was a product of several factors, but as always in the NBA — and unfortunately for Vogel — the head coach is always a convenient target when looking for explanations.

Jackson hasn't coached in the NBA since the 2013-14 season when he was still calling the shots for the then-nascent Golden State Warriors. He coached the Warriors for three seasons, making the playoffs twice and finishing his stint with the team with a career coaching record of 121-109.
