The Los Angeles Lakers have no plans to fire head coach Luke Walton this season, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
The Lakers lost to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, dropping their record to 28-29 on the season. Los Angeles is currently in the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings.
Walton “will definitely finish the season” and has the full support of the Lakers’ front office, one person said.
“Nothing is going to happen with Luke,” one person said. “There hasn’t even been any talk about it and there won’t be any talks about it. Luke will definitely finish the season and he has the full support. So any talk in the media or on social media can be put to bed about Luke. He’s not going anywhere. There has been no conversation about it.”
Whenever your team has LeBron James on it, the head coach is always going to be on the hot seat when the club is struggling. The Lakers are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and don't look like a team that can make the playoffs.
LeBron is the best player in the NBA, but he's surrounded by guys who don't really fit well next to him. Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram have had moments this season where they have looked really good, but there have also been times where the two youngsters have looked bad and unsure of what to do with the ball in their hands.
Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and Lonzo Ball — who is currently injured — aren't good enough shooters to play alongside James. If anything, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka should be held more accountable for the roster they constructed after signing James.
