The Los Angeles Lakers are about to wrap up arguably their most disappointing season in franchise history. After bringing in countless additions last summer, headlined by Russell Westbrook, it was a complete failure.

Russ in particular really struggled to adapt to his new surroundings in LA and it appears all the animosity started before the campaign even began. Per Dan Woike of the LA Times, a Lakers staff member told him that Westbrook demanded the ball in his hands at all times, which instantly pissed off Frank Vogel, LeBron James, and the rest of the squad.

“Russ [Westbrook) never respected Frank [Vogel] from Day 1,” said one Lakers staff member with knowledge of the situation. “The moment Frank said anybody who gets the rebound can bring it up the court, which is just how the NBA is played these days, Russ was like, ‘Naw, I’m the point guard. Give the ball to me. Everybody run. Frank was like, ‘No, we have Talen [Horton-Tucker)] We have Austin [Reaves]. We have Malik. We have LeBron. We have AD. They can all bring the ball up.’ He was like, ‘Nope, I’m the point guard. Give me that s—. Everybody get out the way.’

“From that point on, in training camp, it was a wrap, ‘cause now Russ is a fish out of water. He doesn’t know what to do. That’s how that started.”

Yikes. Well, he certainly got his fair share of touches, but the Lakers guard couldn't consistently put up numbers. He averaged just 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game while shooting a mere 44% from the field and just 29% from downtown. Westbrook failed to build any type of chemistry with LeBron James, which obviously proved to be a huge problem.

If these comments are true, Russ put himself in a difficult position from day one. His teammates immediately thought he was a me-first player by saying he wanted all the ball-handling duties. That's never going to be a reality either when you have LeBron.

Westbrook's time with the Lakers is surely going to end this summer as they will look to trade him. But, it could be tough given his $45 million salary. The Charlotte Hornets have recently been rumored as a possible destination for the disgruntled PG.
