Following his move to the Memphis Grizzlies, Marc Gasol is now back to where it all started from him. It looks like the 36-year-old veteran could not be more pleased with his homecoming, especially considering how his relationship reportedly went sour with the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to NBA insider Bill Oram of The Athletic, Gasol's unwillingness to remain in LA with LeBron James and Co. stems back to last season's signing of Andre Drummond:

After serving as the team's starter for the first half of the 2020-21 season, Gasol ended up playing a bit role for the Lakers following their decision to bring on Drummond. This clearly did not sit well with Gasol, and he jumped ship at the first opportunity he saw. This is despite rumors that the Lakers wanted to keep Gasol on board for the upcoming season.

As Oram described in his tweet above, the fact that the Andre Drummond experiment failed miserably only makes Gasol's departure look even worse. It's like the Lakers hit two birds with one stone here.

To be fair, LA did bring on Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan to the team this summer. One could argue that this duo is an upgrade from a Drummond-Gasol tandem (and Montrezl Harrell, too?) so it's clear that the Lakers are quickly shifting to a new gameplan for the season ahead.
