The game on Sunday between the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors quickly turned into a hotly contested one. At the 1:46 mark of the second quarter, Julius Randle and Jonas Valanciunas had to be separated following a heated exchange and some trash-talking.

It all started on the previous play when the Lakers forward hit Valanciunas with a forearm to the face, but was not whistled for anything by the referees. That resulted in the Lithuanian international center retaliating with a nudge on Randle’s back during the next play that made him fall to the floor. The good news was that cooler heads prevailed and the situation did not become a full-blown fight.

Both players received a technical foul each for their participation, and it can be expected that the referees will have their eyes on them to avoid having another incident between the two.

With the Raptors coming off a loss, they were fired up in this game, as they were eager to get back to their winning ways while also trying to protect their home floor as well. They have a good chance of getting the top spot in the Eastern Conference as the Boston Celtics have been struggling to win games lately, allowing the Raptors to only be 1.5 games behind them.

The Lakers, on the other hand, saw their four-game win streak end with a 123-111 loss to Toronto.

Julius Randle finished the game with a team-high  17 points, while Jonas Valanciunas had 13 markers and 10 boards.

The Raptors will play the Minnesota Timberwolves next on Tuesday, while the Lakers will take on the Orlando Magic this coming Wednesday.
