LeBron James had a schedule conflict keeping him from attending his longtime friend Chris Bosh's jersey retirement ceremony with the Miami Heat, as the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Washington Wizards on the same day.

When it came time to explain it, James had a curious answer to Caron Butler's question.

“I almost thought about taking the game off and flying to Miami for the ceremony, but the NBA's been on my a** for taking games off in the past,” said James. “I didn't want to touch that, but Chris Bosh has been like a brother to me, I love everything about him… It was an honor to play with him for four years. It was an honor to come into the league in '03 with him and it was an honor to still be a brother to him and still be able to send a text to him before we played and let him know how proud I am of him and how well deserved seeing his jersey go up in the rafters in South Beach.”

James has missed two out of the last six games, the most recent one against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday — making it a tricky situation to miss yet another game due to “personal reasons.”

Kevin Durant was fortunate to be able to fly back to Oklahoma City before Nick Collison's jersey retirement, as it coincided in a day off, but unfortunately for James, sometimes schedules don't line up.

Bosh and James will be able to discuss his retirement soon enough after the season is done, now with only eight games remaining for the Lakers.
