Needless to say, the officiating in the NBA this season has certainly caused its fair share of headaches from players, coaches, and fans (and bettors). Understandably, referees have a job to do, and that is to officiate games properly and accurately so that every team can have a chance to win.

Regardless of how hard the job may be, many people are obviously being paid to do it effectively. This season, it can be a valid argument to say that the officiating has been inconsistent. Blatant blown calls are starting to become obvious in games. Even the most amateur fans notice these blown calls, and players are sharply reprimanded when they speak out against them in public. It's a true paradox, indeed.

In this social media age, all of these blown calls are captured instantly on social media, where fans can angrily gawk at the possibility of a referee missing an outright violation. This can be a cruel assessment, but a certain missed violation on Saturday night can change your mind. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs in a close game, after two clutch three-pointers by Lonzo Ball.

Though, in one particular play, you can see Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope clearly committed a double dribble violation as he attacked the fast break.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that double dribble violation. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope even stopped for a moment to pick up his dribble. Maybe this was an honest mistake by the referees. Though, you can only get the benefit of the doubt so many times before people start to question the integrity of NBA officiating.
