The Last Faith comes out on November 15, 2023. It is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The Last Faith Gameplay

The game is a “dark, gothic fusion of Metroidvania and Soulslike.” It takes gameplay mechanics from both genres and combines them into a very punishing, very difficult game. The Metroidvania side of the game lends its sidescrolling aspects, meaning the world is very linear. This also means that the player must do quite a bit of platforming, thanks to the nature of Metroidvania games. The Soulslike side of the game, on the other hand, gives the game a gritty atmosphere, dangerous enemies, and of course, the constancy of death, either yours or the enemies.

Of course, players are not powerless in the face of these enemies. Players have a variety of weapons at their disposal to combat the enemies that seek to take you down. This includes various melee weapons, arcane spells, and long-range firearms. Players can change their loadout to match their playstyle, or to prepare for some of the game’s harder foes.

As with most Metroidvania games, the game features nonlinear exploration. Various parts of the map remain locked until you receive various abilities, such as the ability to double jump, or to air dash. That means that players will be backtracking all the time to explore areas they previously could not access. This brings players against even more dangerous areas, as well as even more powerful foes.

The Last Faith Story

The story follows Eryk, a man who wakes up with no recollection of his immediate past. He does discover, however, that his mind and conscience are beginning to deteriorate. He thus embarks on a race against time to try and find a way to prevent the deterioration from progressing any further. This desire for salvation brings him on a journey where he must face ancient religions, various divinities, and plenty of dangers.
