Even before the start of the summer league games, one of the most anticipated matchups was between the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings, which would feature highly touted rookies Lonzo Ball and De’Aaron Fox.

The two met twice during their NCAA careers, and the fifth overall pick in last month’s draft had better individual performances over Ball. However, the two were not able to compete against each other recently as the Lakers point guard did not play in their game.

Many thought he was ducking Fox and did not want him to have another strong game against him, but Lonzo’s father, LaVar Ball, made it clear in an interview with Mark Willard and Chris Broussard on Fox Sports Radio that they aren’t thinking about him. The older Ball also added that the Kentucky product is using his son to get some attention on him.

“Duck De'Aaron Fox? Have you heard about De'Aaron Fox? Hell nah. You can't hear about him unless he puts my boy's name in his mouth. He been doing all this stuff and ain't nobody been talking about him. So he and his dad gotta link themselves to us to be relevant. De'Aaron Fox had a whole season and the only thing they talk about is 39 points against Zo. You don't put Zo in a sentence, nobody cares about him.”

The comments made will definitely add to the hype when the two meet during the regular season. Although LaVar did not admit that his son has a chip on his shoulders when he goes up against Fox, it can be expected that Lonzo will prepare hard for it and would want to avenge his inferior performance against him in college.

With the Lakers and Kings playing in the same division, they will meet up four times, which will give the fans more opportunity to watch them and gauge for themselves who is better between the two. Despite not among the favorites to make it to the playoffs, their addition to their teams is expected to make their campaigns more interesting.
