LeBron James’ NBA contracts

Since entering the NBA back in 2003 as the No. 1 overall pick with the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James has made $306,984,009 from his NBA contracts, per Spotrac.

During his rookie season with the Cavs, James made $4,018,290 after signing a three-year, $12.9 million contract following the draft. LeBron averaged 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists as a rookie. He won the Rookie of the Year Award.

In the summer of 2006, LeBron James signed a four-year, $60.4 million rookie-scale extension with the Cavs. During the 2007-08 campaign, The King made $13,041,250. That was the first season LeBron made at least $10 million.

LeBron James won his first MVP award during the 2008-09 season. The Chosen One put up 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists while making $14,410,581. He won his second straight MVP in 2009-10 by averaging 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.6 assists. James made $15,779,912 that season.

In the summer of 2010, LeBron James joined the Miami Heat to create the Big 3 with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, ending his run with the Cavs. Cleveland fans burned LeBron’s jersey and were heartbroken after he made his announcement on “The Decision.”

As part of a sign-and-trade deal between the Heat and Cavs, James signed a six-year, $110 million contract. He took less than the max so the Heat could sign Bosh. LeBron made $14,500,000 in his first season in Miami, while Wade made $14,000,000 and Bosh earned $14,500,000.

LeBron James averaged 26.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists during the 2010-11 season. However, Derrick Rose won the MVP Award after guiding the Chicago Bulls to the best record in the NBA. The Bulls also went 3-0 against James and the Heat during the regular season.

In the 2011 playoffs, James and the Heat won the East by defeating Rose and the Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, LeBron and Miami fell to Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks in the Finals.

During the 2011-12 lockout season, LeBron James made only $12,896,159. He won his third MVP Award and finally got his first title after the Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2012 Finals. James won Finals MVP, too.

In 2012-13, LeBron James made $17,545,000 and won his second straight MVP award and title. The Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs in seven games, with LeBron winning Finals MVP yet again.

In James’ final season with the Heat, he made $19,067,500. Miami lost to the Spurs in the Finals and LeBron exercised his early termination option with the Heat to void the remaining years of his contract. The Akron Hammer was headed back home to Cleveland.

In July of 2014, LeBron James signed a two-year, $42.2 million contract with the Cavs. He made $20,644,400 in 2014-15 and $22,970,500 in 2015-16 after initially declining his $21.6 million player option for the 2015-16 season.

James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love guided the Cavs to the 2016 title over the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first team in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. LeBron won his third ring, third Finals MVP and wound up signing a three-year, $100 million contract with the Cavs in August of 2016.

During the 2016-17 season, LeBron James made $30,963,450. The following season, he earned $33,285,709. The 2017-18 campaign was LeBron’s final season with the Cavs. He finished his Cavs tenure by racking up $169,884,342 in 11 seasons.

During the summer of 2018, LeBron James signed a four-year, $153.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He made $35,654,150 in 2018-19 and was scheduled to make $37,436,858 this year before the 2019-20 campaign was suspended due to COVID-19.

LeBron is set to make $39,219,565 next season. He has a player option worth $41,002,273 for the 2021-22 season.
