The Detroit Lions are in a potentially difficult position as they possess the third overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They already have a franchise quarterback in veteran gunslinger Matthew Stafford, recovering from injuring his back and missing the second-half of the 2019 season, so they are not in desperate need of young talent under center like some other top-10 drafting teams.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Lions have been speaking to other franchises about the possibility of trading their pick and moving down the board in the first round.

Rapoport reports the Lions are an “intriguing team” with options due to several teams drafting after them who could use some firepower from their quarterback position. Such teams include the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers, who possess the fifth and sixth overall picks, respectively.

Both franchises are targeting a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft — coming virtually in two weeks — and when LSU Tigers Heisman Trophy winning signal-caller Joe Burrow is more than likely off the board at No. 1 for the Cincinnati Bengals, other collegiate standouts at the position will be under scrutiny for the two AFC franchises.

Alabama national champion Tua Tagovailoa has long been linked to the Dolphins, but his injury history has blemished his record in the lead-up to draft day. Justin Herbert, from the Unviersity of Oregon, could be Miami's man instead; or, to throw a wrench in the machine, maybe the Washington Redskins will shock the world by not picking Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young and take Tagovailoa at No. 2.

Regardless, the Lions have a lot of options in front of them — they could drop down a few spots and let another franchise secure their future quarterback while recouping draft picks and still possibly take a first-round talent.
