Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp singled out his former striker Andriy Voronin as the one player he’d love to have in his squad once again.

Throughout his stellar coaching career, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was known for his ability to see talent amongst his players.

Over the years, a wide array of players have joined and left Liverpool. But if given a chance, Klopp admitted that he would like to have Andriy Voronin back.

“Andriy Voronin,” Klopp told FSV Mainz 05’s official YouTube channel when quizzed to name a former Liverpool player he would have re-signed. “If Andriy had known just one day in his life how good he could have been, it would have been absolutely amazing. Andriy was an incredible player, an incredible talent.”

Further discussing about his working relationship with Voronin, Klopp divulged why he thinks he was “a little unfair” to the Ukrainian center-forward at the time.

“Actually, I was a little unfair [to Voronin],” the German admitted. “In my first year as coach, I think my first full season as coach especially, I would always only sub him on. And then Andriy came to my room during the training camp and asked, ‘Kloppo, why do I never start?’I said, ‘Do you want the honest answer?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ So I said, ‘Because you don’t complain when you don’t start!’.”

“He replied, ‘Fair enough!’ And he carried on not starting,” he contined.

Voronin played a total of three years for Liverpool. Unfortunately, he didn’t leave a great impression with the Merseyside club, having only notched six goals in 40 games.
